How to build and install wainscotting constructed from decorative molding

Finishing the job!

If you've made it this far, congratulations! Now all that's left is the finish work. Apply wood fill to each of the holes in your wainscoting panels.. Once the wood fill has cured, sand down the holes using the mouse sander or sandpaper wrapped in a block of wood. DO NOT simply use plain sandpaper and your hand. You can wind up over sanding the filled holes and it'll be noticeable when you finally paint. Once sanding is complete all that's left to do is paint and presto, instance virtual wainscoting look and appeal.

In the example above, picture frames were installed at a 4" spacing from top to bottom and a 7" spacing from frame to frame.

After you've done your painting, make sure you email us pictures of your final work so that I can put it in my gallery. Also, if you have any questions at all please use our contact email to drop us a note.

Now there are a few obvious things that you'll typically have to deal with for example how do you handle an obstructions or how do you build picture frames underneath windows. There are a host of issues that I can address but rather than guess I'd prefer to hear from my readers and answer these questions as they arise.
